A fruit butter made from fresh Western North Carolina blackberries. One of our most popular fruit butters.

Our fruit butter products are non-dairy. The term "fruit butter" refers to the process used in making this jam or preserve type of spread.

Apple Mill has been producing fine products for decades (est. 1927) at their mill located in Saluda North Carolina.

Apple Mill fruit butters are made from the entire fruit (skin, pulp, seeds, etc.) using a process that extracts all of the flavor and nutrients and uses this during the cooking process. Unused parts of the fruit, like seeds or apple cores (for apple butter) are pressed and the juice is added back into the cooking kettle. Since the kettle never contains the actual stems, cores or seeds, there are no off flavors produced during the cooking process. Once a batch is fully cooked, the entire batch is pureed into a creamy butter containing most of the original nutrients and flavor of the fruit.

Wooden Solitare/Fox and Geese Game

Two games in one.

The first game, solitare, is the big brother of the triangle game seen in restaurants. Supposedly invented by a French Count in the 18th century, the goal is to jump/remove marbles until there is only one left.

The second game, Fox and Geese, is one of the 'Tafl' class games. The Vikings knew it as Hala-tafl. The first written reference of this game is about 1300 A.D. in the Icelandic Sagas. Fox and Geese uses a red marble (the fox) and blue marbles (the geese). The geese try to trap the fox and the fox tries to get the geese off the board.

Instructions for both games on the back. Each game is about 10" square and comes with all the marbles needed.

Maple Spatula

A stirring spatula available as either left or right handed. Made from solid birds eye maple and finished with walnut oil, an edible oil, used in producing this handmade wooden kitchenware.

Not for use in the dishwasher as it will crack. Just hand wash and apply a bit of oil occasionally.

Thistle Spurtle I

A thistle spurtle is used in Scotland (hence the representation of a thistle) for stirring heavy liquids like soups, stews or porridge. It can also be used as a small rolling pin or to break up nuts.

This spurtle is handcrafted from solid cherry and finished with walnut oil. A very traditional utensil that will add character to any kitchen.

Thistle Spurtle II

Gee Haw Whammy Diddle

A traditional toy handcrafted in Western North Carolina. Children would cause the propeller to spin by rubbing the loose stick against the grooves on the propeller stick.

Jacob's Ladder

Highland Fling

The echoes of a fiddle ringing through the mists of the Scottish Highlands travel through time to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Susan Kidney on fiddle and Donna Germano on Celtic harp bring a combination of traditional Scottish melodies and new compositions to celebrate the beauty of two mountain ranges united by a common heritage.
